Square Bars - Steel Squares

BS EN 10025-2 : 2004 - S275JR

Steel square bars are versatile, solid steel sections characterised by a consistent square cross-section along their entire length. Their uniform profile provides equal strength and rigidity in all directions, making them a preferred choice for applications that require high resistance to twisting and bending forces. We stock an extensive range of S275JR grade square bars, suitable for a variety of fabrication and engineering requirements.

With our comprehensive nationwide network, we provide immediate, off-the-shelf availability and reliable, efficient delivery for both trade and DIY projects.

Square bars are a fundamental component in machinery, equipment, and structural fabrication. Their versatility makes them a staple in many sectors, including:
  • General Engineering: Used for shafts, brackets, and structural machine components.
  • Agriculture & Automotive: Essential in the fabrication of equipment, linkage parts, and structural bracing.
  • Construction: Employed in frameworks and supports where solid, non-hollow structural sections are required.
  • Manufacturing: Used extensively in the production of tools, fixtures, and varied heavy-duty equipment.

General Facts
The industry standard grades for the merchant bar in the UK are S275JR and S355JR. S275Jr is the most common grade and most common choice for general welding and fabrication. S355JR is specified for the projects requiring a higher yield strength, allowing for a stonger structure without a significant increase in the weight of the steel.
Merchant bar is weighed by the Kilogram per metre (kg/m). The total wieght of an order is determined by the cross-sectional area of the profile multiplied by the total length. Accurate weight data is essential for site safety, crane lift, planning, and vehicle loading.
Our steel square bars range is supplied in S275JR grade. This is the industry standard structural grade in the UK, valued for its balance and weldability, mechanical strength and formability.
