General Facts
Equal angles provide symmetrical support. Unequal angles are used when you need directional strength—the longer leg provides greater resistance to bending in one specific plane, making them ideal for complex trusses.
Unequal angles are primarily used in asymmetric load conditions or where connection space is restricted. The different leg lengths allow for a higher moment of inertia (resistance to bending) on one axis while maintaining a compact profile on the other. This makes them more efficient than equal angles for specific structural bracing and lintel supports.
