Celebrating Andy Warcup as He Retires from His Role as CEO

22 December 2025

After more than two decades with the business - including the last three as Chief Executive Officer — Andy Warcup is retiring from Barrett Steel Limited, bringing to a close a remarkable career spanning more than 40 years in the steel industry.

Andy’s journey began in 1982, at a time of significant change both globally and within UK steel. Over the following decades, he built a career defined by resilience, adaptability, and a deep understanding of the industry. Since joining Barrett Steel 26 years ago, Andy has supported the business through periods of change, uncertainty, and opportunity - guiding it through challenge while enabling growth, development, and transformation.

During his time with the Group, Andy played a key role in major milestones, including international expansion, acquisitions, and long-term strategic development. He also helped steer the business through some of its most testing moments, always with a calm, measured approach and a clear focus on doing what was right for the long term.

Above all, Andy’s leadership has been defined by his belief in people. He consistently backed teams through change, challenged thinking when it was needed, listened carefully, and championed the importance of treating others with fairness and respect. His leadership style - straight-talking but considered, firm yet supportive - has left a lasting impression across the business.

Reflecting on his career, Andy said:

“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with some inspirational and amazing people over the years. This business, like any business, depends on its people - and Barrett Steel has dedicated, brilliant people. I’ve always believed in never forgetting your roots, treating people how you would want to be treated, and having time for everyone. The experiences I’ve had here have been life-changing, and it’s been an absolute privilege to be part of this journey.”

Paying tribute, Guy Barrett said:

“Andy has led this business with integrity, clarity, and an unwavering focus on people. He leaves Barrett Steel in a strong position, with a clear sense of who we are and what we stand for. I’m incredibly grateful for his leadership and wish him every success and happiness in retirement.”

Andy leaves behind a strong legacy built on trust, experience, and an enduring belief in the people who make Barrett Steel what it is today. His impact will be felt well beyond his tenure, both in the business he helped shape and in the many colleagues he supported along the way.

Barrett Steel thanks Andy for his leadership, commitment, and service, and wishes him every happiness in his retirement.
