Barrett Engineering Steel Proudly Joins the BTMA

15 January 2026

In September 2025, Barrett Engineering Steel joined the BTMA as a Technical Member to deepen ties with the UK's precision turned parts sector. This enables us to share steel supply insights while gaining industry perspectives, as seen at the BTMA AGM in November.

In September last year, we were delighted to become a Technical Member of the British Turned Parts Manufacturers Association (BTMA).

The BTMA serves as the UK’s foremost trade association for companies specialising in precision turned parts and machined components, predominantly within the subcontract engineering sector. It provides essential support to its members through high-quality networking events, expert technical advice, targeted training programmes, regular industry briefings, and effective promotion via the association’s website, the widely distributed Buyers Guide, and participation in key trade exhibitions. The BTMA also acts as the collective voice of the sector in discussions with government and other stakeholders.
Membership brings a number of practical and valuable benefits, including:
  • Access to the latest technological developments and industry innovations
  • Clear, up-to-date guidance on legislative, regulatory and compliance matters
  • Prominent listing on the official BTMA website
  • Inclusion in the BTMA Buyers Guide, circulated to more than 10,000 engineering buyers and decision-makers

As a Technical Member, Barrett Engineering Steel is looking forward to building stronger relationships across the membership, gaining a deeper understanding of current market dynamics within precision turned parts and subcontract machining, and identifying the most effective ways we can support members’ steel requirements. We are particularly keen to contribute our knowledge on subjects such as steel price trends, the practical implications of CBAM, and the evolving tariff landscape.

BTMA Annual General Meeting – November

We were very pleased to receive an invitation to the BTMA Annual General Meeting in November. Our Divisional Commercial Director, Rob Fern, attended and found the day both informative and worthwhile.
The programme included presentations from guest speakers Gareth Davies MP, Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury, and DC James Oskiera of the Metropolitan Police Service, who provided an overview of current cyber security threats facing manufacturing and engineering businesses.

Perhaps the most valuable aspect of the day was the opportunity for open discussion with fellow members. Many companies reported facing similar pressures to those experienced across steel stockholding, most notably the continuing burden of exceptionally high energy costs.

There was considerable conversation around the limited government support available to UK manufacturing at present, the persistent uncertainty affecting forward planning, and the growing recognition of the need for closer collaboration throughout the supply chain. Despite a market that remains relatively subdued, the overall mood was one of measured optimism, with a number of members expressing confidence that conditions should improve significantly in 2026.

If your business is involved in precision turned parts, CNC machining or subcontract engineering more broadly, and you would like to explore the advantages of BTMA membership –the association would be very pleased to hear from you.

Full details of membership options and benefits can be found on the official BTMA website:

We are proud to now be part of this respected network and look forward to playing our part in supporting the continued success and growth of UK precision engineering.
